Church of San Fiz de Quión
Parish: Quión (San Fiz)
Location: San Fiz
The Parish Church of San Fiz de Quión was built in the 18th century, following the characteristic baroque style of the time. Made of rubble stone and ashlar, it has a Latin cross plan and is covered by a barrel vault, which gives it an imposing and solemn appearance.
Outside the church, in its surroundings, there is also a granite cruceiro, a typical piece of Galician religious architecture. This cruceiro features an image of the crucified Christ on the front and Saint Augustine on the back. In addition, around the church, we find the field where the patron saint festivities are held, a wide and welcoming space for the community.
The patron of the parish, San Fiz, is a Christian saint; his life is surrounded by legends. Tradition says he was a hermit who preached Christianity and performed many miracles. The patron festivities are celebrated from August 1st to 3rd.
The Church of San Fiz de Quión is easily accessible thanks to the good signage in the area and the possibility of parking nearby. Without a doubt, it is a perfect place to enjoy a peaceful visit full of history, although it should be noted that the church is only open during Mass hours.
