Church of Santa María de Loxo
Parish: Loxo (Santa María)
Location: A Eirexe – 15822 Touro
This parish church, in Baroque style, is a representative example of the religious architecture found in this municipality. One of its most striking features is the bell tower, located on one side of the façade, in the Compostela Baroque style, which gives the whole complex a unique character.
The surroundings of the church are also worth a visit. Next to the temple, there is a cruceiro (stone cross) and a large cork oak tree, which could be included in the Catalogue of Unique Trees of Galicia (Catálogo de Árbores Senlleiras de Galicia).
Moreover, within the same parish, other points of interest can be visited, such as the Hórreo of Outeiro( traditional Galician granary) or the viewpoint of Coto de San Sebastián, which offers magnificent views of the landscape.
It is worth noting that many Galician parishes are dedicated to Saint Mary, which is why numerous municipalities celebrate their patron saint festivals on August 15th. In the case of the municipality of Touro, this festivity is celebrated not only in the parish of Loxo, but also in those of Bendaña and Turces
