Church of Santa María de Turces

Parish: Turces (Santa María)

Location: Turces

This church has a rectangular floor plan and walls made of white-plastered masonry. The stonework elements framing the doors, windows, and corners stand out. Particularly striking are a small niche that houses an image of the Virgin and a bell gable ( bell tower)

It is interesting to note that there are two other parishes dedicated to Santa María which are those of Loxo and Bendaña. But only those of Loxo and Turces celebrate their patron saint’s feasts on August 15th, just like many other Galician municipalities.

It should be noted that there are two cruceiros (stone crosses) nearby, one in the parish cemetery and another in front of the church.
