Church of Santiago de Novefontes
Parish: Novefontes (Santiago)
Location: A Eirexa- 15822 Touro
The parish church of Novefontes, built in the 18th century, is a structure made of ashlar and granite masonry, covered with plaster. It has a rectangular floor plan with a single nave and a prominent apse. One of the most distinctive features of the church is its bell tower, which reflects the characteristic forms of Compostela Baroque. Inside, the presbytery stands out, occupying a central position within the liturgical space.
The name “Novefontes”, which means “nine springs,” is directly related to the abundance of natural springs and water sources in the area. This place name gives the village a unique identity, as it is uncommon in Galician toponymy.
Note also that close to this resource is Ponte Basebe, starting and ending point of two of Touro’s most important hiking trails, such as the PR-G 93 Ruta da Ribeira da Ulla and PR-G 121 Ruta dos Tres ríos.
