Church of Santiso de Cornado

This 18th-century parish church is built in the Baroque style using granite ashlar and masonry, with walls rendered and whitewashed. The doors, windows, corners, and bell tower are exceptions, preserving their original stone finish. The bell tower follows the Compostela Baroque style, standing out for its design and ornamentation

This temple is dedicated to Saint Thyrsus, a Christian martyr from the 3rd century A.D. who was persecuted for refusing to renounce his Christian faith. According to tradition, he suffered various tortures before being beheaded. In art, he is often depicted as a young man holding the palm of martyrdom or a sword, symbolizing his decapitation. His figure represents steadfastness in faith. In some places, he is invoked as a protector against storms and diseases.

The patron saint festivities are usually celebrated on January 28th and 29th, although the most important celebrations are those of Saint Raymond, which begin on July 31st. Another notable festivity, focused on gastronomy, is the “Rixóns en Pota de Ferro” festival, held on November 1st.

In addition to this church, there are other notable landmarks in the surrounding area, such as the Pazo and the dovecote of Dioño. Although these are privately owned, they can be seen from the roadside. Also nearby are a traditional fountain and a communal washhouse
