Ulla River MTB Route

Start and finish point: Fonte Díaz (Touro)

This route covers a distance of 35 kilometres with a total elevation gain of 1,200 metres. Water is a defining feature of the journey, as much of the trail runs alongside the Ulla River and follows its banks.

Along the route, visitors will discover a variety of points of interest, including hiking trails such as PR-G 93 and PR-G 121, Ponte Basebe, and Fervenza do Inferniño, a waterfall located on one of the Ulla River’s smaller tributaries. The waterfall is set within a landscape of outstanding natural value, featuring hills, riverside vegetation, shrubland, and meadows used for livestock farming.

The route also passes by traditional ouriceiras (chestnut storage structures), the Sobreiral do Ulla cork oak forest, Pena Viewpoint (Miradoiro de Pena), and Coto de San Sebastián.

From this privileged viewpoint, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Pico Sacro, Lavacolla Airport, several parishes in the municipality of Touro, and the nearby mountain ranges of Farelo, Candán, and Barbanza. On clear days, and with the help of binoculars, some of the peaks of the Ancares Mountains can also be seen.

In addition, archaeological remains of an Iron Age hillfort have been documented at Coto de San Sebastián. The site has an oval layout and consists of an enclosed area protected by an earthen rampart, along with a terrace on the northern side that served as an outer enclosure (antecastro) and three caves. From the same location, visitors can also see the remains of the Roman military settlement known as Castrillón.
